5 Tips for What to Wear for High School Senior Boys Portraits

5 Tips for What to Wear for High School Senior Boys Portraits

We know that some boys are not always as excited about doing the photoshoot as we are. Our fun Senior Photo Sessions are centered around showcasing the things that your senior loves. Whether it’s sports, art, music, video games, theater, reading, his car, a pet, whatever he loves, we will create photos with him and all of those activities that make him who he is. Of course we will do some standard photos also to round out the photo album.

  1. Bring your gear- We want you to bring items such as sports equipment, medals, uniforms, instruments, your favorite books, hunting or fishing gear, your car, your pet. We want to showcase what you love! So if it’s your trophy’s, or your giant pick-up truck, bring it along! These photos are all about you!

2. Pick Outfits from Clothing You Know and Love- Senior pictures should be a true representation of your personality. This is not the time to try out a new fashion style. Plan multiple outfits for your senior pictures. Try picking a casual outfit, a dressy outfit, and a fun/hobby/sport based outfit. This is a great way to have variety, and show off your interests or sense of style. You can easily just add a blazer to a casual shirt and khaki pants to create a new look.

Don’t bring clothing with logos, neon colors or multiple patterns in one outfit. Most importantly everything should be clean and pressed.

Make sure your shoes, socks and belt match the outfit too.

3. Outfits should coordinate with the shoot location and your home decor - When planning outfits make sure to consider the location of your shoot. Choosing outfits with colors that clash with the existing environment doesn’t make a cohesive looking portrait. Likewise, think about where you plan to keep the album or hang the wall art of your senior and make sure that the outfit colors compliment your wall colors in the room.

4. Hair, Nails, and Skin - Don’t get a last minute haircut or hairstyle change. Give your hair a week or so to grow in a bit from a haircut. Avoid getting a sunburn before your shoot and make sure your fingernails are clean. Everything shows up in the camera so little details count.

5. Eyeglasses and Hats- Our pictures look so amazing because we use flash. If you do not have a non-glare coating on your lenses, consider asking your optician to remove your lenses from the frame for the photo session. Most will do this at no charge, but give them plenty of notice so there is no rush.

Don’t wear a hat to your session, no one likes hat head, but bring any hats that you would like to wear in the shoot and we will incorporate hat photos towards the end of the session.

These photos represent a wonderful time in your life and the experience of taking them should be just as fabulous as the finished product. Plus, when you are happy and enjoying yourself it will shine through in your photos. You do a little preparation work and we’ll do the rest to make this a fun and memorable experience for you.
